Regular Teeth Cleanings are an Important Part of Staying Healthy and Beautiful | Dr. David Seccombe of Claremont, CA
The primary goal of professional teeth cleaning is to thoroughly remove bacterial plaque and calculus (tartar) from your teeth and gums.
There are many benefits to regular teeth cleaning, not the least of which is your overall health! People of all ages are susceptible to tooth decay, cavities, periodontal disease, and gum disease, but the risk can be significantly reduced with regular professional teeth cleaning. In addition to having serious effects on your oral health, gum disease and excess bacteria can be contributing factors to more serious conditions, such as heart disease.
It is often recommended that the average person undergo professional teeth cleaning every six months. For patients who have been diagnosed with gum or periodontal disease, it may be recommended to schedule a teeth cleaning every three to four months after definitive deep cleaning to effectively treat these conditions.
At your New Patient Exam appointment, Dr. will determine if there is periodontal involvement and may recommend more rigorous treatment with a registered dental hygienist who will remove the buildup of bacterial plaque and calculus that is the primary cause of these gum and bone health issues. Dr. will also provide a Soft Tissue Exam, an Oral Cancer Screening, a Jaw Joint assessment, a screening of your teeth alignment, a teeth evaluation to detect cavities, breaks, or cracks, and an evaluation of the aesthetics of your smile.
David Seccombe, DDS Offers Aesthetic Options for Dental Fillings
Frequently referred to as ‘silver fillings,’ this style of filling has been the standard in past decades due to their strength and affordability. However, they are not the most cosmetically-appealing option and can contribute to other concerns. Dr. Seccombe does not place this style of filling because there are better solutions.
If you’re looking for a filling that will go unnoticed, composite fillings are THE option! They can be colored to perfectly match your tooth and are BPA-free.
Ceramic Onlays and Crowns
Made primarily of porcelain, ceramic restorations are both tooth-colored and stain-resistant for an ideal solution to restoring tooth breakdown.
